Lifenotes 001 – January ’23

Taking hefty inspiration from Carol and Jamie I am putting together some notes on the month. We’ll see how often I can keep this up!

✨ What happened

  • Went to Newcastle for a surprise birthday party for our friend Dave who turned 30 πŸ₯³
  • πŸ₯Œ Did Ice Curling (not real ice) at Roxy Ballroom with old work pals
  • Started writing a brand new talk πŸŽ‰
  • Cooked Haggis for Burns Night (and attempted an address)
  • Walked along the canal into Nottingham twice, it’s my favourite weekend activity come β˜”οΈ rain or β˜€οΈ shine.
  • Checked out Cafe Sobar (3 times to be exactly) and I have fallen in love with the place – do check out the cool work they do.
  • Went to a local meet-up (yay!) – Service Designers Connect
  • πŸ“ˆ Learnt about CRO at Impression’s workshop
  • Started trying to go into the office more often, especially in the colder months.
  • Met up for some beers with my old work pals 🍺
  • I was supposed to go and see Dance Gavin Dance in Leeds but it was a midweek gig and we bailed…

πŸ‘€ What I consumed

  • Overwatch 2 – I caved and got the Battlepass too
  • Fortnite – I often play this with friends
  • Good Will Hunting – I’d never seen this before and it had a massive impact on me
  • Mission Impossible – fun action flick
  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – I’m not sure I understand the cult status but it was fun
  • The Apprentice – love this every year even though it’s so formulaic and full of dickheads.
  • RPDR s15 – enjoying it so far, but I do have drag race fatigue…
  • Doctor Who – started rewatching Matt Smith’s era again, hoping to get through it all again before the end of the year, ready for the new specials with David Tennant 😍
  • The Masked Singer – My absolute guilty pleasure. But Rhino is definitely Charlie Simpson… I would recognise that voice anywhere.
  • Show Your Work – Re-read of this book, it’s a great short read that’s illustrated really well too. Gave me a lot to work with on my talk.
